Well well, I just found out why I've been having trouble sending SMTP email from my home computer, apparently SBC has started blocking port 25 on their DSL accounts by default in an effort to help combat spam. If you are like me, and opted out of their weekly newsletter, you would have had zero prior notice about this new policy. In order to request for the filter to be removed, read this help article.

I'm willing to bet there are some SBC tech support agents working overtime this week.
